MySQL Server Instance Configuration Installation

Hi everyone. I just tried installing MySQL Community Edition, but it has frozen up during the final step (MySQL Server Instance Configuration). I'm installing it on Windows XP, and I used all the default settings, except that I changed "Detailed Configuration" to "Standard Configuration". The installation window now says "Not Responding" and I don't know what to do. I guess if I shut it down manually, MySQL won't be configured properly. I don't know if this will corrupt the installation, or if the installation part has already finished.

MySQL Instance Configuration?
Recently I installed MySQL 5.1 for a school project of mine. It worked fine a few days ago, but it started giving me some password errors today. That's why I tried removing the instance and then uninstalling MySQL. Now each time I try to set up a new instance, the Config Wizard stops responding (while writing the configuration file it seems). I tried reinstalling, deleting the MySQL folder in my Program Files, but the wizard still stops responding.

Install - Silent/No User Interaction Modes For Db Installation And Configuration Wizard
I am implementing an installer for one of our products that requires MySQL as a prerequisite. I would like to have a bootstrap program that queries the user for any information needed for any prerequisite products and our product. Once the user has entered in all the necessary information they can press next and walk away while the installation proceeds.

I know the MySQl installation has the ability to perform a silent installation since it is a Windows Installer package. Can someone provide the list of properties that I would be able to set on the command line in my call to msiexec?

Another part of the installation process is running the Configuration Wizard which is auto-launched at the end of the MySQL installation only if there is user-interaction provided. I would like to know if there are any parameters that I can pass into MySQLInstanceConfig.exe in order to configure my MySQl instance without requiring user interaction?

Can't Connect From An Amazon Ec2 Instance To A Server On An External Host
I have a mysql server hosted on a dedicated server on hostgator. I have an amzon ec2 instance with mysql installed on it. I connected to the ec2 instance through SSH using putty. I am trying to connect the mysql server on my external host from the ec2 instance

mysql -h XXX.XXX.XX.XXX -u XXXX -p

i get a ERROR 2003 (HY000) ...

I have checked all possible issue and the only thing tha i can think of is the amazon firewall.

If I reverse the process and try to connect to the ec2 mysql db from my external serverthrough SSh. it works. I have also connected to the same external server from another external server.

Server Configuration
I am placing this in the MySQL forum because the apps I run are very MySQL intensive...
I have a number of sites running on a dedicated server. Most of these sites run apps built using PHP and MySQL. We have been getting lately very bad performance on our server, especially related to MySQL. One issue is that we need to focus a lot of attention on optomization of our SQL quieries, but we are planning a server upgrade.
Now my question is not only for the MySQL experts, but focused on them, what is the best setup for running application intensive sites.
Is it a server with powerful processing and memory such like dual Xeon and 2GB memory or is there another configuration like two servers? What are the idealistic and realistic setups that are available?

Installation On Home XP Box Server
My ultimate goal, or only goal for that matter, is to run the blogging software WORDPRESS on my home server.

I am currently running Apache 2.X with PHP. Both of them work fine, but for the life of me I can't seem to install MYSQL and get a database up and running correctly.

After i have installed it in the past, I have run what ever little test scipts the walk throughs I have used and none of them have produced sexy results.

Is there a simple guide out there for someone that is going to be using MYSQL in its most minimal fashion? No enterprize servers, or FTPing to hosts, I just want to run WORDPRESS.

Server Not Working After Installation
I have a BlackArmor 220 NAS.I would like to run MySQL from a shared directory on the NAS or at least move my MySQL data directory to the NAS. I have tried to install MySQL directly on the NAS. The installation was successful, but the server will not run. I have also modified the my.ini file to point to the data directory on the NAS with no luck.

A Network-related Or Instance-specific Error Occurred While Establishing A Connection To Server
I'm following the example from the ASP.NET MVC 2 Framework book (Steven Sanderson), except instead of using SQLServer, I'm using mySQL.

public class ProductsController : Controller
{
private IProductsRepository productsRepository;
public ProductsController()
{
// Temporary hard-coded connection string until we set up dependency injection
string connString = "server=xx.xx.xxx.xxx;Database=db_SportsStore;User Id=dbUser;Pwd=xxxxxxxxx;Persist Security Info=True;";...........

When I run the project I get the following error:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

I have downloaded the MySQL .Net connector and in the Server Explorer I was able to view the tables on that DB. I also have made sure that the DBs on the server allows for remote connections. I am creating and running the code locally via VS2010 and the MySQL DB is on hosted server.

using MySql.Data.MySqlClient;
string connString = "server=xx.xx.xxx.xxx;Database=db_SportsStore;User Id=dbUser;Pwd=xxxxxx;";
var connection = new MySqlConnection(connString);
productsRepository = new SportsStore.Domain.Concrete.SqlProductsRepository(connection);

Then in the repository:

public SqlProductsRepository(MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnection connection)
{
connection.Open();
productsTable = (new DataContext(connection)).GetTable<Product>();
connection.Close();
}

Now I get a totally different error:

{"You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '[t0].[ProductID], [t0].[Name], [t0].[Description], [t0].[Price], [t0].[Category]' at line 1"}
